“We are really pleased that Jameer has chosen Sportsideo to help achieve the goals of The Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation,” said Steve Vesce, Managing Director of Sportsideo. “Jameer is an incredible role model for us at Sportsideo and for so many young and older people who love the game. Most of us have seen first-hand how Jameer’s talent, discipline, and focus in playing basketball have enabled him to achieve at the highest levels of his sport. Less visible and equally impressive, however, is how Jameer consistently combines his sports experience with his views on education to positively influence and help so many. We feel privileged to be able to assist Jameer in his mission to combine sports and education to provide life lessons and create opportunities for young people”, Vesce concluded.

“Sportsideo’s SportsQuest gives my foundation a platform to not only raise money, but raise awareness. Our goal is to send each child involved in our foundation to college.

ANNUAL PETE/JAMEER NELSON CLASSIC A SUCCESS

CHESTER, PA January 26, 2011 – The 7th Annual Pete and Jameer Nelson Classic High School Basketball Tournament was held from Dec 26 – 28 at Widener University, Gwynedd Mercy College, and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. The tournament, organized by Scholastic-play-by play, hosted 24 teams from Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.

The Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation had an information booth on Tuesday and Thursday at Widener University. The Foundation raffled off autographed jerseys, sold heavily discounted tickets to the upcoming 76ers vs. Magic game on February 9th (tickets are still available, call 610-525-5800 and ask for Alie for more information), and gave away gift bags to exemplary students. The bags included a t-shirt, basketball and school supplies to students with above a 3.0 GPA or perfect attendance. The Foundation also gave away a laptop computer to one of these students who personified the commitment to academics. Many of the parents and coaches involved with the Foundation volunteered their time and were a big help throughout the event.

The Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation would like to congratulate the following raffle winners.

Mike, Philadelphia: Autographed Jameer Nelson Jersey
Craig, Huntingdon Valley: Autographed DeSean Jackson Jersey
Danielle, Chester: Autographed Elton Brand Jersey

The drawings were held during the half time of the sold out Chester High vs. Sanford game. Our student winner of the laptop computer was Chase from Salesianum School.

Nelson wanted to thank his neighbors for their help and encouragement throughout his youth. Each family received a complete Thanksgiving turkey dinner right down to the after dinner mints! The delivery was handled by participants of the Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation.
